Shaken, stirred? A geopolitical snapshot of Asia-Pacific in 2018

2018 is proving to be quite a seismic year for the APAC region. With the Trump administration in the early stages of a trade war with China and others, diplomatic relations between North Korea and the rest of Asia under a global spotlight, and Asian international trade relationships being tested in a period of uncertainty, we take a look at the forecast for the region for 2019 and assess potential impacts on business.

Keynote borrowers’ panel: Balance sheet gurus

We bring together leading borrowers from around the APAC region, to compare their financing needs and project pipelines. What considerations are taken when opting for ECA-supported debt, capital markets, bonds, bank loans and other products? How can ECAs and exporters better serve borrowers by shaping products to suit their needs? How do borrowers like to work with local, regional and international banks, agencies, DFIs/MFIs and equity investors to structure multi-tranche deals?

Audience Response Survey: APAC 2018

This anonymous survey of delegates’ thoughts on key issues sets the scene for a lively debate over the next two days. Fingers on buzzers, your chance to say what you really think on issues including KYC, ECA documentation, BRI, the future of coal fired power, OECD consensus and much more. In a rapidly changing world, how are their products evolving in tune to digitalisation, shifting purchasing patterns, the demand for sustainability and multinationalism of companies on local content?

From Xi’an to Rotterdam, prospects for collaboration with the Belt and Road Initiative

The US$900 billion Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), is made up of more than 100 separate agreements according to the Chinese government. Around US$350 billion worth of projects have been financed so far, the majority by Chinese development banks, with international financial institutions also contributing. We assemble a panel consisting of established players and newer entrants to discuss where the opportunities are, how access is achieved, and who might be able to be involved in the huge pipeline of projects remaining?

How can development aid compliment ECA financing for large, high risk, emerging market projects? With differing mandates, what steps need to be made to ensure increased cooperation? What can be learnt from successful Chinese Government and policy bank interventions?

Deal or No Deal

A TXF favourite, this innovative session sees panelists going through a series of hypothetical deal proposals for transactions, discussing their various merits and challenges, and then concluding by answering two questions: 1) Whether they would do each of the deals; 2) How they would price each of the deals?

Representatives from the export finance community in 5 different countries of Asia discuss the immediate needs and challenges presented to them in their own country. By comparing different experiences, our panelists will outline the trends seen across the region, as well as connecting solutions that need to be seen across the continent.

Look smart, think smart: Financing smart cities

Most growth in Asia, particularly the ASEAN region, comes from urban development; how has modern technology created a new paradigm for investors, and what innovations in financing will come to the fore?

Closing debate: Is the OECD consensus still fit for purpose?

At TXF Global 2018 the debate raged; with OECD consensus defendants wanting to maintain and improve the consensus, some wanting to tear it up and start again, and others alluding that it wasn’t necessarily binding. We now pick up the debate, in an open, honest forum, with strict Chatham House rules!
